The professional editing is complete! In late September and early October, I collaborated with a professional editor to polish the story's text. She and I had not worked together previously, but the editing process went very smoothly...and I'm stoked about how the story turned out! To meet the new editor, check out my blog here. Otherwise, on to the illustrations! 🙌

The character concepts are complete! Many Little Squiggles will feature two main characters: the girl from One Little Squiggle AND...her younger brother! Consequently, the first step in the illustration process was to determine what the younger brother would look like. Illustrator Polina Gortman delivered four character concepts for the boy (who is loosely based on my son, Nolan), and this is the one we selected for the book:

Can you see the resemblance? 😃 We chose this character because he most reminded us of Nolan, and I think he will be the perfect companion for the girl!
The rough sketches are underway! Once we finalized the boy, Polina got to work on the rough sketches for the interior of the book. She finished the first round of sketches just before the Thanksgiving break, and they look amazing! Here is a sneak peek of the first few spreads:

Aren't they beautiful?! Polina has done an excellent job of bringing this new Squiggleville adventure to life, and I can't wait to see where she takes it from here! 🙌
Polina is currently working on revising the rough sketches, and the next set of revisions is due in mid-January. The final illustrations are scheduled to be completed in May.
