Book Designer Spotlight

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

After researching the various elements of book design, I realized how much work goes into the design process and how incredibly important the process is for creating a high-quality book. I also realized just how little I knew about it. I quickly came to terms with the fact that I needed a professional to help me design The Train Rolls On.

With that in mind, I researched book designers on Reedsy and found someone who I believe will be a fantastic addition to this creative team. His name is David Miles, and he will start designing the book in August once Christina Wald finishes the cover art. Here is more information about David:

Book Designer David Miles

David Miles has designed hundreds of books for folks, including #1 New York Times bestselling authors, publishing houses, CEOs, nonprofits, and more.

From 2013-2018, David worked as a publishing director and creative director for one of the country's fastest growing publishers. During that time, he designed nearly 300 books, including cookbooks, children’s books, memoirs, and others.

As an author himself, he has written or illustrated over forty books for kids with nearly 200,000 copies sold. David’s books have won the New York Book Show Award and have been finalists for several other awards. In 2018, David was named a Publishers Weekly Star Watch Honoree.

He and his wife Stephanie (also an author) live in Fresno, California with their son.

Here are some of the books that David has designed:

Luckily for me, David is essentially a book designer and publishing consultant in one. So, not only will he direct the design process for the book, but he will also be able to answer any questions that I have regarding printing, pricing, distribution, and marketing. I have no doubt that he will be a great resource during this journey, and I could not be more excited to have him on our team. So, welcome aboard, David!
